Secrets
It’s true
Don’t judge a book by its cover
You never know someone by their face
And if you go digging, you never know what you’ll
 Discover.
 Don’t dig, stay blind.
 Keep closed eyes,
Don’t have to worry about what you might
 Find.
But if you go digging, it’ll be your own damn fault
 When you learn something shocking
And become filled with the secrets of their steel-bolted vault.
You’ll swap secrets, not knowing what yours will trade
Learning, when under pressure, what the other one chooses
It might be a lot like ripping off a band-aid
The still falling tears, hidden scars, and bruises
Left underneath, still waiting to fade.
Never thought the other would do such a thing
One depending just on a blade
One saved by a failing string.
Funny how much a smile can cover
A mask of a laugh or a chuckle
Disguising the raw emotions that lay under.
No one would believe you if you told them,
So why waste your time, just don’t tell
They don’t need to know if they can’t see it now
You’re suffering through your own private hell.
The waking at night, the screaming
 The crying, the feeling.
No one listens, or no one hears
Maybe they don’t care, maybe it’s a phase
 And, “Will just disappear.”
But when you know it’s not just a phase,
That it won’t just go away,
You don’t want to hear what they say,
They’re just wasting the little time in your day.
 So you bottle it in,
 Your own private sin.
