A Stinging Numbness: On Empathy
I'll never forget what it's like to gossip.
The words that cut like knives slipped out of my mouth,cutting my throat and stinging like a wasp, a pepper, or causing me to feel weak like lost blood. How could I feel such a stinging numbness to her pain? How could I stay silent otherwise? I had turned the weapon that once hurt me against someone else,an innocent victim. Words that cut me,and cut her,too. My friends laughing,laughing as she dies inside,drowning in a pool of lies. Hers and mine,
