For Someone Like You
I told them I could swim
They told me I would drown
I told them I could walk
They said I would fall down
I told them I had big dreams
They said they would never come true
 Not for someone like you

They told me to get my head out of the clouds
 To start seeing reality
 To stop trying
To make something out of nothing
They told me that when I would fall
There would be no one to pick me up
So the first time that I fell
I picked myself up from the ground

 Every time I fell
I got up and tried again
I did it over and over
 Until finally I could walk

 Every time I swam
 I chocked on water
So I started in the shallow end
Until finally I could swim in the deep end
I kept my head up in the clouds
And looked down on the world
 Seeing every rainbow
 And every glittering sunset
I never stopped believing in my dreams
Knowing that they would come true

 When they finally did
I walked straight up to them
 I said-
I told you I could swim
You said that I could drown
I told you I could walk
You said I would fall down
I told you I had big dreams
You said they would never come true
 Not for someone like you
 But now I can swim
 I can walk
 And I can dream
 My dreams came to true
 For someone like me
