A Place You Don't Belong
This is not something new this is not something unknown
 Its every where
 Being homeless is not rare
 Here I stand before you
“Will work for food” sign in my hand
My life played out in your mind
 But yet it’s all wrong
I live a life of fear, you see
Fear of not having enough to eat
Fear of dying in the cold
Yet, no fear of being all alone
For now, I live in New York City
In an alley off of Avenue A
They call this place a “tent city”
 But for me, its home
When I wake in the morning
I find that some will never wake again
The fires we set the night before are gone
 Waiting to come alive tonight
Food is an option when you have little
Sleep is a privilege when you have no heat
Money is scarce when no one can spare a dime
Looks are common when you ask, “you got a dollar?”
Every now and then we wake to gun fires Cops don’t like us, we don’t belong
They say we’re littering the streets we are merely living
Here they come, we all must run
Like a swarm of bees, they surround us
Cops everywhere, taking everything we got
 Leaving no mercy on us
Hear the buzz of the people on the sidewalk
 Rambling on their cellular devises
Stomping with pride on the box you call a bed
Why do they do these things to you?
They say “a home is where the heart is” Where could that possibly be
 Here? There isn’t a heart
 So there isn’t a home
Take the time to be kind
And help out your fellow man
Just because he doesn’t have house
 Doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a home
