Dreamland
I dreamed that I went through the attic,
To a land I had not before.
It was through the trapdoor by the dollhouse,
That led me to that yore.
And all around me, I saw,
The most elegant of sights.
Chinese dragons with their forbidden pearls,
Pirates and gypsies living in strife.
For as far as the land seemed to stretch,
And all that I could see.
Was a fantasy world, though a phantom world,
Shrouded in darkened mystery.
And across the ebbing waters,
Where a lighthouse, the rocks had stole,
I thought I saw, for a just one moment,
The shadow of your soul.
Come to say goodbye to me,
Come to say farewell.
For not all in this world can last,
Not all can be well.
And I think I had a fleeting thought,
As I approached that place,
That you had made this world for me,
To rot in an endless race.
A grave among the fantasy,
Among the dreams long gone.
Because that is what we had embraced,
That is what we had become.
A memory, a long ago,
A ‘once upon a time’,
“Goodbye,” I whisper at the meadowlark,
“Goodbye, my enchanted time.”
