Tell Me
You can tell me how to tie my shoes
tell me how to clean up my mess,
how you think you know me best.
Tell me that my rhymes are wrong,
tell me how to sign my song
just to make me learn right from wrong.
Show me that I’m minuscule,
even after everything I do
show me that nobody cares
even when you’re standing there.
Show me where the sun comes up,
call me meaningless names like “slut”
tell me that no one will come around
after you shoot my confidence to the ground.
Make sure people know that it’s my fault
tell them you know what I’m all about
make sure they know my reason
tell them what you see.
While you do so, I’ll still be me.
