Broken but here
Shush, can you hear the
silence?
Can you hear its cries
from thousands of immemorial
times?
I am closer to the skies now
than fifteen years ago
when I was born,
I can nearly reach them
on my toes and arms raised high,
but “nearly” was never good enough
my neck has started hurting
(just as my heart)
from watching at the sky
every night,
hoping for a star to fall
but never seeing one
my dreams crashed into the ground,
just as raindrops from the clouds
(or teardrops from my eyes),
there they stayed and forever dried
(died)
My heart is broken,
but since when do broken hearts
stop beating?
My eyes are still seeing while
everyone else seems asleep,
my lungs are still breathing while
everyone else seems dead
(but walking)
As the horizon goes through
different colors and lights
I wonder,
should I smile or cry
as the sun goes down?
