late at night
his fate is changed
from that of a shy boy
to one of a shining knight
in his bed
he drowns in dreams of dreary towers
of malevolent and mystical powers
lonely princesses who pine
for a prince’s protection
and dappled Danish steeds
who are just as daring
as their masters’ deeds
the little boy waits
and wishes;
what would happen if all of it was reality?
but the snap of a finger wakes him
and caps the fantastical possibility.
