The Paint on the Wall
To peel paint off a wall burns fingers with fire
Like mirrors and dresses when time comes consume the body
When dusty roads merge to carry your sin
Dancers under scarlet sky pour through windows in silence
Rhythm lost beneath empty teacups
They search for what has been lost to the scalding of their throats
To the weight of their footsteps
Trapped within the walls of a motel room they are my idols
Pray to them
The ones who know my every word
The only ones that appear in a scarlet sky
And fingers blister as the wall grows bare
And fallen paint spins in a way dancers have forgotten
All ablaze
