2228 Miles
My heart and mind are in constant battle with one another
Emotion versus rational is the omnipresent theme
And I can't decide whether to cherish our memories,
Or mourn the fact that that's all they will remain.
The one whose face once filled my mind whenever I closed my eyes,
Is now the reason for the tears that fall like incessant rain,
Landing on this very paper, yet another reminder
Of the bitterness that compelled me to write this poem.
His absence is far more unbearable
Than his presence was pleasant
For having him near was never jeopardized,
Until an untimely fate of 2228 miles separated our hearts.
Although my mind says to move on, it's for the best
Mon coeur whispers of all the priceless moments
That our relationship comprised
And I know that letting go will be far easier said than done.
So this smile I wear is but a mask,
Because you deserve to be happy once again,
And although I'd prefer you to hear it from my lips
Please know that I love you.
