Mother and Father
Mother and Father
She
The birds and the bees
The blossoms and trees
The blue skies dotted with clouds.
He
An always-ticking clock
(Once swallowed by a croc)
Moves fast when he should slow down.
He’s wrinkled in age
She comes anew
Both in danger of waste
And both we could lose.
(They are both running out, it seems.)
They wed under blue skies dotted with clouds
And blossoms and trees
Were their cover –
God married them
And they said “I do”
At the same moment.
(He counted the seconds.)
She conjured up a bouquet.
(Who to throw it to?)
And so, newlywed,
They whispered some words,
Then together they sat
And created the Earth.
At first, we were grateful,
But now, we forget
Who we owe our thanks to
And so we neglect
Sweet Mother Nature, we pollute and disgrace;
Kind Father Time, we continue to waste.
They love us, and help us,
But we care not for them;
It’s unjust, and unfair,
And all looks so grim.
But fear not! With one action
One voice that could preach
We could change the whole world
If we stand up and teach!
So please, spread the word
To respect these old two;
And be as kind to them
As they still are to you.
