This Is What Heaven Feels Like
Heaven's soft rain dusts my soul
Tinting my skin a rosy gold
I'm swamped by tears inside this skin
How long to bring outside what's in?
Halfway between the Earth and sky
The taste cools my lips when they are dry
This life tethers me to familiar pain
But all bonds are cut loose when washed in the rain
I'll lay these bones against the sky
Cut them away when the burning's done
I'll give my heart the wings it needs
To free itself of desire's seeds
I'll trade the green for lengths of blue
This cold packed ground for something new
And when the painted light receds
It leaves an afterglow of me.
