Daddy's Womb | Teen Ink

Daddy's Womb MAG

April 23, 2008
By Anonymous

i asked my father if i could swim,
and he said that i would drown.
The Sea would imprison me – he said
if my feet had left the ground.

So i walked out to the water,
and cried out – how ’bout now!
He said, a little bit further, Son,
and then you’ll leave the ground.

i stepped on sand then stone,
from hollow ground to sturdy.
The sky was at my level as I
gazed at the birdie.

The Sea brought me a new idea,
the urge to flee to the high.

i asked my Father if i could fly,
and he said, sure, Son – go try.

i jumped as high as i could.
Still, i landed on the ground.
i saw my Father pull on a chain,
then i knew that i was bound.

I liked the use of figurative language and how the dad made sure that his son couldn't drown.

I enjoy the fact that the father is trying to protect his son from drowning. On the other hand, I was hoping that the dad would allow his son to go deeper in water.

I like the figurative language this poem uses and how it is described. I also liked how you used symbolism through out it.

I like the way that the dad is shown to always protect his son. If the son failed at a new activity the chain would make sure they were safe. The chain sort of symbolizes the reach that a father has over their son and how they always want to protect their kids.

I like how this poem uses symbolization to show how a dad protects a kid. They let the kid try to do things and in the event, they would've failed, the father has a chain that makes sure they are safe.

I love the symbolism and descriptions used in the poem. It gives a really good and different perspective of somebody else's life and what it might be like to live as that person.

This is really good! The chain was a really good touch and I think especially the rhyme scheme carried through really well. You might still want to expand on the idea of the chain, especially just the sensation of it as you attempt to fly. At the same time I think you did a really good job.

If life were predictable it would cease to be life, and be without flavor.

That was so awesome!
