My Bird
You were my bird,
You sat by every day.
I watched for a while,
Then I shooed you away.
You sung of your love,
I rejected you still,
But you kept up your songs,
Perched on my window sill.
One day you grew tired,
And you took to the skies.
You chirped for another,
And I whispered good-bye.
Though I knew it was I
That let go of your wings,
And begged you to fly
Away,
I suppose I had hope,
That although I let go,
You just might care enough to
Stay.
