My Choice
It’s my choice now
My parents’ eyes blaze
Burning the nape of my neck
Wanting me to chose Christ
One parent tells me I’m He**bound
One becomes enraged
One tries to convince me I’m wrong
One welcomes my individuality
I feel trapped
Like a bird in a cage
I can’t be myself without offending
The ones who should love me most
I can’t shake the feeling
Of utter loss and fear
As the spirits murmur of sorrow
And my mother sheds a tear
The world spins soundly still
And I wait for dawn to break
The start of a new day
Maybe peace will come my way
But until then
I’ll struggle on
And keep on hoping
Foe a brighter day
Laughter and sunshine
Will find a way
Into my heart
One of these days
Though may parents think I’m wrong
I know my heart is true
And that’s all I ask of
Myself
