My Black Struggle
They just don’t know how much power they hold.
In their pockets are privileges that to us are unknown.
They are blind to the entitlement that they immediately receive.
Halfway knowing that around others they subconsciously put them beneath.
Let’s unpack the pockets of the fortunate.
Those who weren’t born into the world as dark skinned subordinates.
Unfold their strengths that maim us weak.
Analyze their ploy because about it, they will not speak.
They say “Keep them dumb and poor.” as they soak up the riches.
And to their plot we are ignorantly the witnesses.
Our people worked hard for us to get where we are.
They told us never give up and reach for the stars,
But our youth thinks that this goal is too far.
But I beg to differ.
Because I remember.
I remember how our ancestors were sold.
And I remember all the lies they were told,
And I remember everything that they stole.
And how could I forget the names we were called and how we were treated.
Did you forget YOUR people were beaten?
I know that most will not agree
That everyone has the same opportunities
But believe it or not, there is such a thing as white supremacy.
See I know exactly how much they have
And I’m glad.
Glad that those privileges and rights weren’t just given.
Glad that my people worked hard for the way that we are living.
And no one can tell me anything different
Because I know that struggles lead to blessings.
