Evanescence
Across the street, yellow lights.
Their dusty glow reminds us
That even the brightest star might one day fall to Earth.
Glitter is a mask.
Inside the house, an empty mirror.
The dull glass shows
That even the rosiest cheeks may fade at unwelcome news.
Happiness is a choice.
Within the bedroom, a barren closet.
Its naked walls tell us
That even the tightest knot can be undone by skilled hands.
Nothing is permanent.
On the floor, a soiled carpet.
Its trodden threads show
That even the messiest of us can be taught manners.
The future can change.
