Made in Hawaii
Sunshine, sand, and the occasional sulfur
from the volcanoes on the Big Island,
it is beautiful, from the green mountains
piled high with lush trees
and happy-faced spiders on flowers
ingrained in tragic stories
to widespread beaches all over the edges,
collecting tourists and locals alike.
Sunsets streak across the skies,
reflecting off of the oceanic mirrors
as it disappears behind the horizon.
Fireworks explode faintly in the night
while voices shaking with laughter
fills the mountain-side house.
Airplane lights mix in with the stars
while we watch on blankets below,
listening to waves collide with the shores.
From watching movies in the dark
to magic tricks never to be revealed,
these memories are vivid and favored,
making me smile when recalled,
because, like me,
they’re made in Hawaii.
