utopia
and the bugs dance and the crickets sing
harmonizing with the sound of life
the sky softens into a million hues
streaks of color drip across the sky
dandelion seeds ride on the wind,
swirling around like the thoughts in her mind
dancing sunlight filters through the trees
golden leaves flutter in the breeze
sunlight catches the dewy grass just so,
shimmering golden in the morning light
lazy clouds drift above all the life
oblivious to chaos below them
and she lies there in the cold hospital bed
the room is sterile. it smells
of hand sanitizer and disease
and she closes her eyes, once again
slipping
into
the
utopia of her mind
