I Never
I never rode on a roller coaster,
Or learned to ride a bike
When I made my first best friend I lost her
 I never flew a kite

The fondest memories of childhood I’ve heard
 Are unfamiliar to me
 I never rode a merry-go-round
Or played with my friends in the street

I rolled down the hill, my sister and me,
 Played dolls, school, and cook,
Picnicked next to the flowers and trees
Spent a lot of time with books

Snuck down to the kitchen late at night,
Stole some cookie dough from the fridge,
My sister and I had a lot of fights,
Pushed each other to the edge

I never kissed or fell in love
Or fought my battles with fists
I never went out late at night
Saw stars and made a wish

I never quite learned all the secrets
Or how I could be brave,
I clung to innocence all my life
 And always was afraid

The list of things I’ve never done
 Can sometimes make me cry
My list of goals and magic dreams
 Keep my innocence alive

I learned it all when I was young,
 Learned how to feel alive
Forget the things I’ve never done
And live the life that’s mine
