The Ace
One more point,
All she needs,
As she bows lower to the ground
Servant to the master technique.
Determination turns to sweat.
Add in. This
Is it. Her body opens itself
Toward the sky, weight pouring smoothly
Into her knees, like water. For a moment
She is a Greek statue,
Serving gods,
Serving to the opponent,
Serving for her life.
Time resumes,
Like the moment before a rollercoaster
Drops.
Set point, this
Is it. Her movement is
Powerful, resolute,
Proving,
Hoping to prove,
To the smudged faces in the stands
To the clear conscience within,
Capability.
The serve is too fast,
Too good.
Ace.
She unfreezes as a small
Voice cuts through the cheering,
And congratulates her for
Coming back
To life.
