Things I Know
I know I'm not fearless;
 I'm scared of lots of things:
 I'm not scared of the dark,
 but what's waiting in it.

 I know I'm not brave;
 I shudder in danger's face:
 I know when I should stay put,
 but I run like a soldier retreating.

 I know I'm not beautiful;
 I'm not even close:
 I know “gorgeous” isn't me,
 but I'm satisfied with average.

 I know I'm not perfect;
 I don't pretend to be:
 I go about life trying to succeed,
 but it only causes more heartache when
 I fail.
