Is it Right?
Shadows whisper
Murmurs of regret.
Deep mournful sighs,
Small crystalline tears.
Hearts raked with sorrow
Leak midnight blood
Onto the bowed heads
Of the wronged souls.
Is it right
To take a life
Not your own?
Is it right
To steal a life
Of one not grown?
A life unlived
Is a world unlearned.
Spirits wrenched
From their trembling bodies.
Sparkling eyes dulled,
Beating hearts slaughtered.
Life's blood released
Soaking through rocky soil,
Seeking earth's center.
Dark angels hover
Over broken bodies,
Weeping,
For souls severed
From their rightful thrones;
Great minds devoured
By the rages of war.
Where is the hope
On a blood soaked battlefield,
Littered with bodies
Of those fighting for a cause.
Fight the fight.
Feel the burn of the explosions.
Death at every turn.
Worry not for their countries;
Worry for lives not lived,
Discoveries not made,
Loves unproclaimed,
Words left unsaid.
Where is the joy
For the families that pay
With the lives of their loved?
Carry the burden
Of the knowledge of war;
Your freedom is hard won.
