What If?
You'll know
when you're in love, they say.
 What if you don't?
 What if Prince Charming
 Isn't all that?
 What if he's not
 Perfect...kind...handsme...saught-after?
 Maybe he's the mess.
Or the one that speaks his mind.
 Or the one suffering
from personal agony, finding a safe haven in self-expression
 of any kind.
 You'll know
if you've done the right thing, they say.
 What if you don't?
What if, even for an instant,
 you doubt?
The correct was waiting in the wings,
 hiding in the shadowy corner
 like a villain,
 disguised as the wrong?
 Maybe I can escape
 the insecurities, the doubts
 once I fall asleep.
 In my dreamland fairytaile,
Snow White will teach me to forget
As we sit by the well.
And she'll show me how to
Leave my misconceptions in the dust,
 If only for a moment,
Just long enough to start a
 "Once upon a time"
 If not long enough
 To scrawl defiantly
"And they lived happily ever after."
