When It's Colder Inside
The door creaks and groans
rattles and shakes
as if someone is trying to open it
straining against the bolts in an attempt
to rescue me
to take me away from this mess
in a whirlwind of night snow and laughter
But it is just the wind that cries and howls,
tries to break down my door.
And try as he may,
the wind sweeps past the door
into the amethyst abyss, leaving me
alone to feel the sting of every fresh gust.
