I wonder if I'll end up here
Some seventy years in the future.
In one of those smelly rooms
Divided by a curtain
Along these musty corridors.
This place makes me think about life and death.
And the unimportance of my vain, little existence,
And how, no matter who we are, most of us end up the same way
In a smelly room
Divided by a curtain
Along a musty corridor
In a nursing home.

I wrote this after going Christmas caroling in a nursing home.. Got depressed.

This poem is so simple yet so powerful. I visited a nursing home a few months ago, and I was absolutely stunned by the awful smell that emanated throughout. Wonderfully written! I love the repetition. :)
