Pretty
It’s human instinct
 From the time you
 Were born
 You had one
 Question inside of you
 You would do
 Or say
 Anything
 To answer it
 Am I pretty?
 You asked your daddy
 As you swirled around
 In your dress up clothes
 And your mom
 When you tried on her
 Makeup
 And
 Jewelry
 Am I pretty mommy?
 Then you asked
 Your friends
 As you tried on
 Piles and
 Piles
 Of clothes at the mall
 Trying to find just one
 That made you feel good
 Pretty
 But you could hear it
 Over and over
 And it never sounded
 The same
 As it did
 The first time from
 His lips
 As he kissed you and
 Said it
 Over and over
 You’re pretty
 You’re beautiful
 You’re gorgeous
 And for those minutes
 You felt like
 Maybe it was true
 It’s funny
 How it was so hard
 To believe it
 And so easy
 For him to
 Take it away
 As he moved on
 To the next girl
 And made her feel
 Pretty
 As her skin
 Lit up on
 Fire
 Underneath his
 Finger tips
 You’re pretty
 You’re pretty
 You’re pretty
