The Useful Lie
You wouldn’t dream of the pain she hides
Behind that fake but genuine smile,
The useful lies she’s told
The lies that help her sleep at night,
The painful truth that is finally unraveling
Tearing her apart with every word,
He doesn’t love her
He pretends,
Fleeing in the middle of the night
To get away from her just to be with another,
She never knew
It’s all finally coming to a head,
Realizing it’s all a game,
One that she is no longer willing to play
There’s no denial anymore,
The truth is everywhere
She’s gone,
Lived, learned, and will never look back.
