The Beginning of High School
As one journey ends, another one begins.
We now move forward together, on to bigger things.
We are the baby birds, fleeing from the nest, discovering
A world beyond anything we’ve ever imagined.
We now get shots of reality, a dose of independence.
A spoonful of remembrance, as we look back on the children
We used to be, all the wonders we possessed of what this experience
Would be like.
We’ve grown so adapted to our own peers, sometimes unaware
Of the relationships and bonds we’ve created.
Sooner or later, we’ll all discover our own path and begin to travel
Upon it, separating from one another, pulling apart like string cheese.
Where do we see ourselves 20 years from now?
Some of us will be living in success and glory, while others
Will struggle, wishing they had cared more about receiving a good
Education. Some of us will consider college, while others of us may
Not decide to pursue a spontaneous future.
Either way, times ticking. The doors are about to open. The moment of truth is about to reveal itself. Are we ready? I sure hope we are.
