She Cries Easily

She cries easily
Because
She was raised on a diet of
Sweet words and candied loneliness
She has no deep cut scars
That she carved herself
But instead sports cavities
That line her mouth
And make her smiles all the more genuine.

She says she cries
More because
She misses them
The heartworms
That bury deep
And eat their way through her
Feelings
Small and simple and prevalent
Omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient

She says she cries
Because she wants
To set them free
She thinks tears can do that
She believes tears can tear
Rip at cardiac chambers
Dig a hole in her chest
Six inches deep
And let her breathe

She cries easily when
Her puzzles break
When the jagged
Sculpted edges shift
And don’t match up
She hunches over
And dry heaves
Gripping at her sides
Holding on for
Dear life

Wishing a lifeboat would
Come and save her from
The endless ocean
Raging and calm all at
Once
But desolate and lonely
All the same

She remembers a story of fishermen
And mermaids and
Pelagic pearls that formed from
The sands of dreams
And years of wishing to be
More
Always more

And she believes her tears can
Water the earth
And make a flower that
Blooms gold in this
World filled with
Shades of grey
Colored with the watercolors
Of a stupid girl’s heart.

Because people cry easily for all sorts of reasons; the good, the bad, the stupid and the noble.
