Child's Love
I was teased, pestered,
By all those kids and you,
We bickered; we fought, as only children do,
I still remember, that first time I slapped you,
How your eyes grew round in shock, then narrowed in anger,
How I laugh, knowing there was no danger,
What was it then, that turned the child’s loathing to love?
It grew, season by season, from shove,
To hug.
