Some Stay Quiet
Some people write speeches.
A congregation forms to listen.
They praise, the shout, they clap,
They band together.
Some stay quiet.
Petitions are made,
Circulated,
Signed.
Proof of what is desired,
What is fought for.
Some stay quiet,
Emails are sent,
To every contact.
Messages left on machines,
Trying to inform,
To persuade.
Some stay quiet.
Clubs are formed,
That use secret handshakes,
And hold meetings,
Stringing ideas together,
Building.
Some stay quiet.
Fists pump.
Slogans are sung.
T-shirts bear beliefs.
Banners wave in desperation.
Marches close the streets.
Some stay quiet.
Bands write songs.
They wait for change.
Magazines take polls,
Readers write to the editor.
Radio stations take phone calls.
Some stay quiet.
The world is going to Hell,
Some say.
Less war, more peace,
Some say.
Down with the government,
Some say.
Everything is in ruins,
Some say.
Some stay quiet,
I wonder what they're thinking...
