The Lightning is Here
Her steps are a constant pattern,
disrupted by unfamiliar ones.
She looks back to see
nothing.
Rustling of leaves
More footsteps
once slow,
now faster.
She runs,
quick glimpse behind,
black jacket,
he runs.
Her heart pounds,
like thunder,
in her ears
louder and louder.
She runs harder,
looks behind,
he is closer than before,
because he is faster.
Time slows,
scared,
all senses,
heightened.
He is here,
hand on her
neck,
pulling.
She drops
to the ground,
struggling
for a breath.
