Trust Me
Two words, so seductive
I want to take them,
Hold them, believe them
But they’re just lies.
I should know better.
You never listen when
Someone says “trust me”:
It’s always a lie.
I tell myself that
Over and over but
It doesn’t quite click.
I can’t help it
I want them to
Be true for me
And for you, too.
I don’t like it
When you feel trapped,
When I feel trapped.
Can I help you?
I hope so, but
I can’t think of
A way that will
Work for us both.
I need an outlet.
You need an inlet.
They say that trust
Isn’t a one way
Street, but I beg
To differ. Trust is
Just what you want
To give, combined with
What you are given.
Trust me, you say
Trust you? I ask
Yes, you whisper quietly.
Deep inside my soul
I step forward then
Stop myself. It’s a
Terrible mistake, I know
But it feels so....
Right to trust you.
