Mark the Night
How could you
That was my darkest day
And you take it
And you throw it away?
I know what you went through
I know that it was bad
But does that take the validity
Of the trauma that I had?
What makes you so exclusive
Gives just you the right
To take all your heartache
And go and mark the night?
The worst part of it is
I know you went through hell
I know it got you good
But I did as well
I marched through that darkness
Knowing that all I’d ever had was light
I thought at the end I could at least
Mark the night
You stole that from me
Wrote your name up in the stars
Said that the only one who ever mattered
Was you, and your scars
I think that everyone
Everywhere, who’s been through anything
Deserves that one blob of darkness
Of which they are king
You know better than anyone
How ownership changes you
So if you take the sky
What are we to do?
