Unrequited Desire
I conceal from you my yearnings
 hoping to quell this
 unrelenting ache
 with veiled care
 and simple friendship
and yet your warmth reaches for me
 extending past the barriers
 I have set
You want what you do not understand
 ask for something you cannot
 comprehend
 one night is not enough
to quench this thirst for you
 one night is not enough
 to satisfy my hearts' desires
 why can't you see
that one night is all it would take
to make and break my world?
I would go mad with the memories
 and fanatical with hopeless anticipations
of a next time that could never be
I conceal from you my yearnings
 choosing to live my life
devoid of the passions and elation
only your skin, your feel, your taste
 can bestow me
 I choose this life
for tortuous dreams of what could be
will sustain the need for that
 which I covet
until the day when my meager hope
 dwindles
and my heart and body finally comprehend
 that you are not,
 not will you ever be,
 mine.
