The Storm

Oh sky, bright blue symbol of innocence,
Oh sky, a world we exist in together,
Oh sky, an empty space which lacks substance,
Symbol of Naïveté to remain forever.

We play all day under the bright big blue,
Innocent, devoid of truth. Enough is enough.
But not yet. There is still so much to do.
Leave the chores for someone else grown and tough.

The storm, nature’s wrath in physical form,
Unconquerable, it smothers the mighty sky.
We see this behemoth and flee in swarms,
Devoid of reason, but to live not die.

Time goes by, yet our fleeing never ends.
The storm, strong, is persistent. Enough is enough.
Friends gone, I’m alone. Storm is too large to fend.
I face this storm no longer scared but rough.

The storm, a powerful tempest of the truth
Hits with incredible destructive power.
The fearsome winds shred body and soul of youth,
To build me back to no longer cower.

Confusion hits me as I look upward
To see the nostalgic sky. It’s teasing.
Ephemeral nostalgia. It is absurd.
I now have purpose. The storm is easing.

The eye has passed, the storm rages. I’m ready.
I’m fueled with new purpose. I shall live.
The storm’s winds rage but have no effect. I’m steady.
The squalls bring floods although cruel; I forgive.

Oh storm, dark symbol of reality,
Oh storm, a world of severest judgment,
Oh storm, stalwart clouds of brutality,
A symbol of truth and enlightenment.

Only time may tell if storms will not amass,
But for now this dark storm I shall surpass.

This Poem was written after I had an epiphany: It was time to grow up. No more fooling around. Enough is enough. The piece was written after reminiscing upon my freshman year in high school. At this point in time, I lacked skills needed to succeed in life. I was still a child. I had a close brush with the "storm" (failing classes) which could have severely hurt my future.
