Loneliness
A small child sits by herself in a corner of the subway
But no one pays her any attention
A soft, continuous weeping is all she will ever mouth
Her rancid smell and tangled hair wards off possible friends
Too bad she doesn’t have a home to shower in
She prefers roast chicken and potatoes
But settles for half eaten sandwiches from the trash
Her taste buds know little of what real food is
But anything is better than nothing
Too bad she has never felt the warmth of a blanket
Only the bitterness of the cold
If only someone
Anyone
Would notice
