Letters to a Loved One
Dear Grandpa,
Every time I go to Grandma’s house, I see your picture.
It seems like it’s really you, staring at me.
In a way it feels like I know you,
But I never got to meet you.
People talk about what a nice guy you were.
Every time your name is mentioned, the room goes silent.
I can almost feel the sadness in the air,
Like someone wants to break down and start crying.
Mom tries to hide it when she talks about you,
But I can always see a little tear in her eye.
I wish you were here to watch all of us grow up,
You would have four loving grandchildren.
Your own children turned out to be great, successful people.
I can guarantee you would be so proud of them.
There are not enough words to explain how I feel about you.
I wish I could meet you,
And see what a great person everyone says you are.
Just one word,
Just one hug,
Would do it all for me.
Love,
Lauren
