Dear Dad,
I never understood why things turned out
Just the way they have
I never blamed myself though it seemed
Like the right thing to do
I have our picture on my shelf, I look at our smiling faces
And remeber our times spent together
Although you call every week
I wish those talks we have could be face to face
Mom tries to explain why things turned out this wway
But it just creates a big lump in my throat
Thinking when I will see you again
Keeps me afloat

Being with you, I felt so free
You helped me understand how it feels to rule youre own life
You always said "just live your life like a bird"
Free and wild

But I can't imagine if things were actually different
Where would I be if you and mom stayed together?
Would I be living in this country?
Where would I be going to school?
Would I even know any of the people I know now?

Although I miss you dearly
I don't think I would want my life to change dramatically again
I like where it is now but I wish I could see you more
I hope you understand that I just can't be a little girl anymore
I want to know what happened

From beginning to end
The whole story
No more "I'll tell you more when you grow up"
No more "you won't understand"
I just want to know and be prepared
For those twists and turns
That life creates for us
Love,

Your one and only daughter

I wrote this in my creative writing class. We had to write a letter poem to someone and I chose to write it to my dad about my paretns divorce.

the best kind of people are the ones that make you feel uncomfortable, in a good way.
