Drawer Filled With Buttons
I open the drawer
And it creaks
It creaks
Hundreds of them
Different sizes
Different shape
Different color
Different from all the rest
No two are exactly the same
Well maybe some are
But not in this drawer
No no no
They’re not the same
And you cant try to tell me
They are because I know
You might not
But I do
I always do
And it is each
One of these
That mean something
To me
First date
Last date
The day before the last
Last Autumn
This Autumn
They all mean something
New and
To try and
Pick just one?
How could I?
To pit one against the rest
Well now thats just cruel
But if thats what you
Want for me
Then I can
Be cruel too
I can be mean
I can be scary
But thats not what you want
So I leave them and close the drawer
And walk away
For good.
