A Watchful Eye on the Court

No this is not a bird
This is the 500 whistles I hear
Walking in to the tournament
Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball
I know the difference
As soon as I hear the smack of the hit
And the tap of the set
It’s a Volleyball Qualifier
We walk past the courts
Players sweat rags
Parents nothing but a heart attack
Coaches, gears turning
And Scouts notepads
Arriving at our destination
We warm-up all jumpy and thinking
What will today be?
Win or loss
Either way we’re a team
