For You
Little girl lost
In a forbidden tunnel, center
For all to see
But carrying her pride wholly
With tears in her eyes
And a heart in her hands.
Shoot me, love
For I have seen
Far too many cruelties like these
Dancing on the soul
Of the underground hope
Kicking up leaves
Causing complications between
Love and loss.
I have tried to write this
Over and over again
Always snagging
On simple things
But finally it seems
The flow is easy,
And so the story goes
Of a child with no hope.
At the center, she stood
Careful of every step
And greedy fingers teasing
To pull her back,
Each foot further
Was one beat stronger
And each tear fallen
Was one drop sharper.
The light beckoned
And her breathing lengthened
She made it with seconds to spare
And no more fear but twice as much dare.
