Dream Lights
The city was all bright lights
floating
Lights
disembodied
far
off
in
the
distance
She looked at them from her window,
counting each one
Each one representing a different
dream she dreamt of, that would come true
when she reached the city, with its
lights
In her bed by the window
No matter how cold, how wet, how hot, how foggy
Each night she looked
out her window. At the city
getting closer
At the lights from the city
floating
in
the
distance
Counting them like they were dreams
Before she went to bed. Wrapping her blankets around her

One day
The last night
She looks out her window
And the lights from
the city
The
far
off
city
slowly blinked
and f - l - i - c - k - e - r - e - d
and went out
Her dreams
they
f - l - i - c - k - e - r - e - d
and went out
She went to her bed
for the last time
wrapping her arms around herself
And as she went to sleep
for the last time
She thought:
