I am more than just a girl. I am not worthless because of my sex.

I am strong, I am kind, I blend in with the rest.

Men may be often stronger, but women are one of a kind.

You may have your muscles, but we have strong minds.

You see, girls are often frowned upon, we’re often isolated.

Sometimes we are invisible, often we are degraded.

Usually we become outcasts, in school and in society.

I wish one day we all could live life equally.

I am not saying men are dumb; however, women are smart as well.

Though society has corrupted us beyond what words can tell.

These days you have to be a model, be a hundred pounds.

Most don’t realize that women’s voices actually produce sound.

There is more to us than make-up, there is more to us than our chest.

We are all the same, we all have strengths. We blend in with the rest.

There is more to us than mini-skirts, we are more than maids.

We are more than the gum on your shoe, more than how people degrade.

We mean more than money. We mean more than cleaning.

We are women, we are people. Our lives do have meaning.

We can do the same things men do, backwards and in high heels.

There is more to women than what you realize. You don’t know how it feels-

To be told you can’t do something because of your gender.

To be the weak and not the offender.

To be the outcast, to be the isolated.

To be harassed and degraded...

To be humiliated, and inferior.

To be pushed aside and full of fear.

Society sees men as our master.

Though women can get things done faster.

We are not weak, we are not naive.

We are women, not girls, we’re not what you perceive.

We are women, we are adults, we are who we are.

Women and men are equal by far.

So we may not be as strong, but we are not weak.

We are capable of many things, we are able to speak.

We are not just mammies, maids, and mommas, we are way more.

We may be female but equal rights is still what we’re fighting for.

The author's comments:
I wrote this because I was often looked down upon for being a girl by my own father. I was told that I would amount to nothing and that I would always be inferior. In my short life I have witnessed more inequality than the women who participated in the Women's Suffrage movement. Women and men should be seen as equals. That's all we are asking for. How many female construction workers have you seen? Roofers? Mechanice? The like? No many. It's because society all over this world is corrupted and we believe them. Not anymore. Stand up for our equality ladies and gents!!! And this poem isn't complaining about males treating women badly, its about SOCIETY.

Thank you for your comment!!! :) I agree, equal rights has improved, but not enough. I just wish people could realize that women are just as good as men... and we can accomplish the SAME things. Just got to keep pushing our opinion!!! :)

Very good word choice and nice expression of feelings. Maybe women will be the same as men someday, and I think equality has come a long way since the past:)
