Ode to a Dog
Paying tribute isn’t easy
When there’s so much to love.
The sleekness of her coat,
The softness of her gloves.
Her eyes, so human in intelligence
So animal in love.
No judgment, no lies have
Ever crossed her faithful heart.
As we sit together, two creatures have
Never felt so close, and yet so far apart.
As different as two can be,
We’re destined to be enemies, seemingly.
Yet here we are, clothed in darkness
And suddenly I can see
Love and hate, fighting their battle eternally
The fight struggling to be won.
Only when love is gone completely
Will the fight be over and the battle done.
Love is sturdy, love is warm.
It carries on through the strongest storm.
It travels miles, conquers death
It brings hope when hope is gone.
And now that I’ve seen through the lies,
I’ve discovered truth in my dog’s eyes.
