Backstage
Backstage, people cluster in a tangled group
Tied together with an unspoken camaraderie
All eyes towards the stage.
Heartbeats hammer,
A deafening silence settles
Cutting short the excited babble
Replaced with a short-lived solemnness.
Whispered words hang in the air,
Heard by all but answered by none.
The only thing that reaches my mind
Is the ominous music on the stage
Signaling the end of the last act
And the beginning of mine.
Eyes close,
Palms clench,
Stomachs knot.
No time left for being nervous,
The people herd on stage
Stumbling on the darkness.
The light bright in my eyes
Teasing me with the thought of
Thousands
Millions
Of
Eyes
On
Me.
The music starts.
The act begins.
