Gridiron
The job of an athlete is never ending,
Days of work, nights of pain,
Struggling to be the best, working towards a dream,
Clawing tooth and nail in an attempt to get better.
Strangers become friends.
Friends become brothers.
Brothers stand by your side until the end.
The end will come to all things, some good, and some bad.
The bad makes you work even harder.
The good lets you know the work wasn’t in vain.
Coaches, the angry teachers of young bodies.
Mold them to perfection, shaping the athletic mind.
Long hours in the field and in the room,
Weight training is essential,
Need to put knowledge gained into action.
The training is over; the time has come.
The spotlight is on you,
Every movement, every mistake,
On display for the world to see.
Your time has ended.
Sports are no longer the center of life.
The world changes and so must you,
Never again to step on the field.
