“Curvy women are real women. Skinny women are real women. Women who have had boob jobs or lip enhancements or liposuction are still real women. Women who wear makeup are real women. Size 0 may make no sense mathematically, but a woman who wears that size is as real as the one who wears a size 16. What makes us “real” people is not the shape of our flesh but our basic humanity. And we lose our humanity when we judge –not when we lose weight, gain weight, wear makeup or make the intensely personal decision to undergo cosmetic surgery.” -Jacqueline Emerson.

She was a good girl
In her lacy dresses and golden blond hair
But, alas, all of that disappeared because
A boy that had the right words
A boy that had the right touch
A boy that had the right look
Caught her eye and lingered there
Causing her to change herself
To fit his needs, his wants
Her golden hair dyed jet black
Her lacy dresses exchanged for leather jackets

Only a short time later
To begin losing long-time friends
To begin getting scars on her thighs and wrists
To begin losing dangerous amounts of weight
Her mother and father begged for her to stop
Only resulting in seeing less of their once bubbly daughter
Losing her to the boy who forced her to change

A short time before the cheerful holidays came around
The once good girl decided that life was cruel
The once good girl decided that no one would replace the empty feeling in her heart
The once good girl decided that the bottle of pills was the best way out
Ending her life the day before the happiest day of the year came around
Leaving a note on her chest that said,
I have no life to live if I do not have my true love
The holidays were cheerful no more
Once word spread around that the once good girl ended her life for a boy
That changed her life
That changed her personality
That changed her outlook on life

She is remembered as ‘Good Girl Grace’
The good girl who changed everything for a boy that gave her nothing
The good girl who gave up her life for a boy that gave her nothing
The good girl who told herself, ‘I do not deserve to live if I am not fit for him’
Her mother weeps with sadness by Good Girl Grace’s casket, holding a tissue to her eye
Her father holds a shotgun, waiting for the boy that gave his daughter hell
Her sister sobs uncontrollably in a chair, wishing Grace would have told her what was wrong

She is a good girl now
Watching us from heaven above
Looking over the next girl who will be tricked by the boy who gives you hell
Looking over the next girl who will be fascinated by the bad boy in black
Looking over the next girl who decides her life is unworthy for the boy who moves on
Making sure no other beautiful girl gets told, ‘You are not good enough for me’
She whispers in the wind passing by,
‘Do not fall for his tricks. You are good enough’
