The Run
Sea birds soar,
Soft soles submit
To the harsh pavement beneath,
Heart pounding methodically
To the beat of a metronome,
Legs striding furiously
At a pace unthinkable,
Sweat pouring vigorously
Saturating the shirt.
The sun swelters down;
Slowly surrendering to the moon,
My heart pounds on,
I hear a ringing in my ear,
But I do not stop
For the finish is in sight,
I am a runner,
I am alive!
